Los Horcones
was funded in the northern part of Sonora, border state with Arizona, by a group of people who were seeking a more humane and meaningful way of life. We at Los Horcones, have a boarding school for young adults with Autism ASD and PDD since 1971, grow our own food, and have been riding and racing bikes since 1990. From the very beginning, we knew cycling would always be a part of our lives, the way it changes people for the better is undeniable. Since the 1970s, Sonora has welcomed travelers from around the world looking for adventure — from fishing, sailing, and hunting to cycling and many other outdoor experiences.
We’ve taken that tradition a step further, developing our gravel and road cycling camps into a truly unique way to experience Sonora. It’s not just about riding; it’s about discovering the landscapes, people, food, and culture that make this region so special. And there’s even more to discover. One of our newest projects is a small, award winning, Bacanora distillery called Palo Blanco, dedicated to one of Sonora’s most authentic traditions: Bacanora, an agave spirit native to this land. A visit to Palo Blanco is much more than a tasting. It’s an opportunity to learn about the history and traditions behind Bacanora, meet the people who keep them alive, and enjoy a spirit that is deeply connected to the land and its culture. It’s the kind of experience you don’t just visit — you remember.
